The Real Debate of the Health Care Debate
By admin on Aug 17, 2009 in Social
President Obama may take the government run health care option off the table and some have interpreted that as a major concession. But is it?
Will the President bring this option back later in the form of bits and pieces in other bills?
What exactly is his plan, or was his plan?
Why all the secrecy over the past few weeks? Why all the rush?
Why after over 200 years of being a nation, we suddenly have to pass this one bill very fast? Why can’t we take the time to carefully examine and debate each fact?
(Some members of Congress are on record saying they hadn’t read the 1,000 page bill. Why? Is it too long?)
Why can’t we look at other countries such as Canada and the UK and see how such a system works, or doesn’t work?
Are there other plans, other options we can consider? Why can’t we shop around for the best plans? Why only one government plan? (I don’t believe the hype that the insurance companies will be able to compete against a government plan.)
As these questions have arisen, people have realized this bill is very far reaching and will affect every man, woman and child in the United States. It is not something we can flee from if we’re richer. It will hit everyone, rich and poor.
That’s why we needed to take the time to think this out.
Yes, there has been shouting at town meetings. But why do some people shout?
After having spent over fifty years on this planet I’ve found people do that when they think they’re not being heard any other way. Psychology 101 is to listen to them.
You can lend them your ear. You don’t have to give them your ear.
Talking on a cell phone while a cancer survivor is trying to ask a question in a public town hall meeting is not being courteous or smart. (One representative from Texas did just that last week.)
Is it really smart for some congressmen and congresswomen to cancel town meetings because it might get a little rough? My uncle landed on Utah Beach early on the morning of June 6th, 1944. That was the real definition of ‘rough’. Those men did not back down from the fight and they won the beaches.
(Perhaps some in Congress need to remember they may be fighting for votes in a few months. Their ‘heroism’ won’t be forgotten so easily either.)
We have seen how our government works or doesn’t work throughout the last few weeks.
The only advice I have is it still seems to be of the people, for the people, by the people- for now.
Congress and the President need to listen to the people who can vote them in or out.
American power is temporary at best.

Hi Alice.
I think the EXACT same thing myself. Where the heck is the intelligent, rational discussion over all this? THERE ISN’T ONE!
Just a lot of screaming and fear mongering. Good grief. I wish the media in this country were better. If the media acted responsibly, this would not be such a problem.
You have a great site here Alice. Keep up the good work!
