Insider Report Exposes Elder Care in Japan
By admin on May 23, 2008 in Social
Tanya, who has been living in Japan for the last 30 years, gives us a detailed report on eldercare in Japan.
She points out there is tremendous need for caregivers there just as there is in the United States because people are living longer.
Also, Tanya shows us first hand how Japanese society is changing and how that affects the care given to the elderly. One aspect is that extended families don’t live together as much as they did in the past. New nursing homes are being built but they are more institutionalized than their American counterparts. (And we thought the ones in America were bad enough). However,Tanya is complimentary of the American nursing homes she has visited.
Her report is fascinating and shows taking care of the elderly is a world wide challenge.
