Some elderly people in Manchester, England have been targeted by a cold caller scam.  The cold callers claimed to be salesmen for a security company and were trying to sell the seniors alarm systems. 

This is particularly painful to think about because some of the older people may have actually needed updated alarm systems.  But one lady lost 1200 pounds in the scam.

One of our top crusades with this website is to protect our elderly against crime.  We are saddened every time we hear stories like this, but we still believe there are many ways seniors can be protected.

A good bit of advice for everyone is to be on a buddy system.  If you are approached by a cold caller who is very convincing, stop and tell the cold caller you must check it all out with yourbuddy who could be a  relative, neighbor, friend or fellow church member first.   This could go a long way to provide extra security because a cold caller probably wouldn’t want to  have to explain his sales pitch to your friends.
