How many centenarians, or people over the age of 100, are there?
How many people will be celebrating their 100th birthdays in the future?
Projected numbers are 125,000 American centenarians in 2011 followed by in increase of 834,000 to possibly 1 million by 2050.
These estimations are based on the American population growing to 300 million by 2050.
Your chances of becoming a centenarian are 1:4 thousand.
California has the highest number of centenarians with 5,341. South Dakota has the largest per centage where 0.0033 percent of residents are 100 or older.
Women centenarians outnumber men. According to statistics from the U.S. Census from July 1, 2005, the number of men over 100 years old were 14,013 and women centenarians were 56,091.
What are the secrets for living to a ripe old age that may include 100 years or more?
1.Stay interested in the world around you.
Curiosity, and keeping up with what is going on with T.V., videos, and surprisingly, the Interenet are some of the activities of centenarians interviews by the Evercare 100 Survey. One in seven centenarians interviewed have played a video game.
2. Diet Nutrician
A good diet rich in vegetables and fruits is important, but most centenarians report they haven’t changed their diets in 50 years, so consistency in diet may be a factor.
3. Medicine
Take advantage of improved medical care. Most centenarians interviewed think heart bypass surgery is the most important medical advance of their lifetimes.
4. Faith
Many people over 100 have paid particular attention to their spiritual needs and believe faith is just as important as physical needs.
