Baby Boomer Senior Drivers to Get Help Driving
By admin on Sep 2, 2008 in Social

While we're on the subject of aging baby boomers, there will be 40 million of us senior drivers on the road by 2030.
That scares a lot of people.
And what about insurance premiums for future senior drivers? How high will they climb?
One thing I worry about now is my aging parent and his ability to see blind spots and respond to changing traffic.
Fortunately, there's plenty of help available and even more help is on the way, thanks to M.I.T. and car companies like Volkswagen.
For now, AARP has driver safey classes to help brush up on driving skills, and a Roadwise Review, which is a check list for determining if you are your aging parent can handle driving.
But I'm most excited about the coming 'senior cars' which will be manufactured just for older drivers.
M.I.T. and many car companies are working to develop the prototypes now.
As I mentioned Volkswagen is one of the companies and future senior Beetles will have driving simulators and a radar system to help senior drivers avoid collisions.
Hmmm, come to think of it, I've always liked Beetles, and who knows, I may be one of those little old ladies actually driving one in the future.
