Will You Go Broke Caring for Aging Parents?

going broke caring for aging parentsWill You Go Broke Caring for Aging Parents?

According to the New York times 30 per cent of adult children spend money on their parents.

In these difficult times, that's money that could have been used for living expenses, college education, etc.

What's the answer?

I don't think there is any one specific answer, but I have been advocating to move your parents in with you.

That's not for everyone, so don't feel guilty, but it can work well under the right circumstances.

It's cheaper than assisted living, and you don't have to worry about keeping another household up and bringing  in lots of food for them.

I think the care is easier when they're there with you and you can keep an eye on everything.

What do you think?

Here is the link to the New York Times article and notice the readers' comments.  Some of them are quite revealing.  Shocking, actually.
