Swedish Banks Denying Loans, Credit Cards to Seniors Over 70

Senior citizens in Sweden are being denied bank loans and credit cards because they are over 70.
Can your American bank also deny you simply because you are a senior citizen?
Apparently, yes. Citibank does not issue credit cards to people over 75.
Is this discriminatory? Or is it simply prudent business- not to do business with senior citizens?
