Senior Scam Caught Just in Time
By admin on Aug 10, 2009 in Money
Here are the details of a recent scam tried on a 76-year old woman.
Fortunately, an alert homemaker aide who is also a staffer for Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging caught it just in time.
The would be victim, Betty Hubbell, was about to send her life savings to the scammers.
It was a simple scam with a caller claiming Betty’s daughter-in-law was in jail and needed $3500 to be freed.
Here’s a warning.
You can read the story from the link below, but the “crying woman” on the phone sounded just like her daughter-in-law, according to Betty.
A lot of seniors don’t hear well. Those of us who care give can certainly testify to that.
Betty also said the scammers had her daughter-in-law’s name correct.
There are many people out in cyberspace who know a whole lot more about us than we could possibly imagine now.
That’s why we need to be on top of these scams and warn as many seniors as possible so that they won’t become victims.
