How Will Wall Street Credit Mess Affect Us and the Elderly?

Vicki Crawford of the Naples News has an excellent commentary about the current Wall Street credit mess and economic crisis.
She writes, " Loan sharking is illegal, but some financial institutions appear to get away with antics that would make a crook blush…"
I'll agree. Out of all of this Halloween nightmare of toil and trouble has come some revelations that many of us are shocked over.
Crawford is also wondering what has happened to the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights Act of 2008 (H.R. 5244).
But the main question we're all wondering about is how all of this Wall Street Credit mess and the Bailout will affect us and how we care for our elderly.
When will we be able to retire? Or are our future retirement plans off?

I am trying to be optimistic about the bailout. Have to be, what else can we do? Rethink our spending habits and live within our means. Stay away from credit card debt and buy when you have the cash. Plan meals out weekly and make a grocery list, only buy what is on the list and use coupons. Time to tighten our belts. Credit cards should only be used for car rentals, hotel room rentals, airline tickets and in emergency situations. There was a time when people did not use credit cards. Now I understand the need to build credit, how about timely payments on your mortgage, car payments and insurance payments. Pay off the credit card monthly, I did say The credit card, not those credit cards. You only need one, a visa or MasterCard, they are accepted everywhere. Stay away from department store cards and check your banking institution and see what kind of deals they have for their bank customers. Hang in there, things will change for the better.

    Good advice, Cathy.

I think planning is the key for everyone. Good planning can go a long way for helping us as we work our way through this economic maze.

I especially like your advice on the credit cards. I only use one myself and it's a card that gives me something in return.

Cash, credits, merchandise, etc. are important for all of us now. The deals are out there.

Try to work out deals with every business, credit card, bank that you trade with.

"Trade with" is an old fashioned term, but it's a concept we need to dust off and think about. You as the customer has a lot of value.

You’ve probably heard about the famous aging effects nun study with the Sisters of Notre Dame by now.
It was conducted a few years ago and it has given us a goldmine of aging and memory loss information that can help us all live better, healthier lives in our later years.
