Wheelchair Catches On Fire Aboard Plane

A wheelchair battery burst into flames shortly after being removed from a Boeing 727-200 jet in Manchester, England.

The problem was discovered when blue flames were sighted coming out of the wheelchair’s battery. After it was taken away from the plane it burst into flames.

This brings up an important point about traveling with battery operated wheelchairs and making sure you and your aging parents are safe. You also need to think about other passengers if you are aboard an aircraft.

The best ways to prevent a wheelchair hazard aboard a plane is to make sure the wheelchair battery is attached to the chair properly, that it is turned off, and that it can not be turned back on accidentally during the flight.
