Shoulder, Knee Replacements: Should You?
By admin on Sep 23, 2008 in Main
Shoulder replacement, knee replacement, hip replacement… the list seems endless these days. And it seems we all know someone who has had these surgeries or is anticipating them.
But are they a good idea?
Yes, it you are in a lot of pain and it your doctor okays it.
(My minister had shoulder replacement surgery two weeks ago and was back on the job and in the pulpit last Sunday. My brother is scheduled for both knees to be replaced in January.)
But there’s one thing you really need to research before you have any of these surgeries performed on you. How long will your prosthesis last?
You may have to have the surgery again later after the prosthesis wears down from constant use.
One thing my brother found out in his research is that these devices are being constantly improved.
It may not be as fun as watching improvements on new Lexus models, but it’s almost as dramatic. Big changes have occured with prosthesis devices over the last few years and most likely more will be coming.
