New Vaccine for Alzheimer’s?
By admin on Apr 23, 2010 in Main
There may be a new vaccine for Alzheimer’s and it shows promise. Around 400 patients will be recruited in Europe around 2012 for trials.
The vaccine is intended for those already stricken with Alzheimer’s and the way it works will be to attack beta-amyloid plaques which harm brain cells.
The promise of this new drug will be to successfully cause the patient’s body to create more antibodies designed to attack only the beta-amyloid proteins. If successful, the vaccine can be created to give healthy people who have not yet been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. It will keep the beta-amyloid plaque from building up.
If this works it may be the break through we’ve been waiting for.
