Will the FDA start regulating salt?

There is a lot of controversy about the  government possibly considering salt a banned substance.

However, there is no plan to make salt a banned substance right now.

But why would the FDA regulate salt as dangerous?

Statistics show by reducing salt intake by one teaspoon per day per person, 150,000  lives could be saved each year.

But what if you don’t add salt to your food?

That’s not the real problem.  The culprit is all that hidden salt in food you’d never suspect it would be in such as cereal, cottage cheese and bread.

Which means you much read the labels, but the government should insure that the labels are easy to read.

One fact is certain.  The government will probably get more aggressive on this issue.  How much aggression is too much?

A better solution is to educate the public on the hidden dangers.  Let people be in charge of their food and their health.  By refusing to buy products that contain too much salt, people can send strong messages to companies to curtail salt saturation.

This is an issue that is not going away and people with high blood pressure as well as diabetics and others who are affected by high salt dangers should be aware.

The debate continues and here are some very different view points from across the web.
