What are your risks of getting Alzheimer's?

Your risk of contracting Alzheimer's disease will most likely increase if  both your parents have it.

During a recent study researchers found a larger percentage of children whose parents were diagnosed with Alzheimer's, also being diagnosed around age 66.

Of the 111 families involved with this study, 42 percent of the offspring who were 70 and older had already contracted the disease.   That does not count the two-thirds of the children who had not yet reached the age of 70.  So the numbers could go higher as that group ages.

What does this mean?

Dr. Thomas Bird, one of the researchers verifies in the general population the numbers average  that one person in 10 will develop the disease.   Evidence points to the fact  there is a strong genetic role involved in getting Alzheimer's.

However, the good news is that as more is discovered about Alzheimer's more can be done to cure it.
