Salmonella Tainted Food Including Foods We'd Never Suspect
By admin on Feb 4, 2009 in Health
The salmonella tainted food problem is spreading.
Now it is including items that more of us and our aging parents may actually be eating such as Special K cereal and Keebler Soft Batch Home Style Chocolate Chunk Cookies.
Heaven knows I've eaten my fair share of those.
Maybe mother was right. She would never allow my brother and me to have peanut butter while we were growing up.
Our neighbor across the street was a scientist who was involved in research to prove that peaunt butter causes cancer.
My mom did not wait for the results.
She used to sit and talk with the neighbor's wife in the car in our driveway while they drank their coffee so we couldn't overhear.
A couple of peanut butter conversations and she was scared to death.
Peanut butter does not cause cancer, but it can lead to a lot of other illnesses if not handled in the food processing plants properly.
This illustrates how vigilent we all need to be and watch what is in our food. I was shocked to really see how many products actually have peanut butter in them.

Having a degree in food microbiology, it amazes me that we still have factories that fail to abide by the regulations set forth by the FDA. It is when these "outbreaks" occur that we must remember to keep away from the tainted products, especially if we are YOPI. YOPI is an industry term for Young, Old, Pregnant and Immunosupressed (prone to illnesses). Keep an eye on any YOPI's that you love and make them aware of any products that they need to keep away from.

This is a very good point.
YOPI is an excellent way to remember those we need to protect.
