Elderly Men More Likely than Women to Get Life-Saving Heart Device

Even if your Mom is under age 75, she is twice as likelyas your Dad, not to receive a  heart device that could save her life.

The device is an implantable defibrillator and can  automatically stop dangerous heart rhythms while converting them back to normal.  

The problem is men are 3.2 times more likely to receive implantable defibrillators than women.

What does this mean for caregivers?

It's a warning that you need to be more of an advocate for your parents than ever. 

You need to be aware of what is available and then demand your parents receive the very  best  medical care.

The implantable defibrillator is only one problem facing caregivers of the elderly, but it is not insurmountable.   

By getting the right information you can be better informed and can discuss such issues with your parents' doctors . 

 In our opinion, you will have won half the battle for giving your elderly parents the best possible life quality, while in some cases,  even saving their lives.
