Centenarians Give Advice for Living Long

Did you know the fastest growing age group in the U.S. are people over 85?  And of that group centenarians are reaching the lead.  These are people who are 100 years old or older.

According to a new study, if you are a woman who gave birth after age 40, you have a four times greater chance to become a centenarian. And most centenarians are not obese and were not habitual smokers.

Dr. Thomas Perls, founder and director of the New England Centenarian Study explains one of the secrets of these people who have been around for a century of longer. "It’s the older you get, the healthier you’ve been."

The Citizen Patriot, a newspaper from Jackson County, Michigan, has a fascinating article featuring several centenarians living in that area such as Hazel Huff, 101, Carl Wollpert, 102, and Marian Shea, 103, who is incidental currently memorizing George Gershwin’s "Rhapsody in Blue" so she can play it on her baby grand piano.
