Will There Be Enough Doctors for the Elderly?

Beware, chances are your parents’ doctors are really not that thrilled about treating them.

This information comes from a article entitled  U.S. Medical Schools Prepare for ‘Silver Tsunami’

What’s the problem?

The elderly are harder to treat.  Their age is against them and even simple ailments present difficulties for diagnosis.

Today’s doctors often do not have that much training in geriatrics and those specializing in treating the elderly are not given the prestige from their colleagues that they deserve.

However, according to the U.S Census Bureau the population of America’s elderly will almost double by 2030.  I’ll be one of them.   Maybe you will be too.

The need is getting  so much greater for doctors practicing in geriatrics  that medical schools across the county are trying to heed the warnings.  There will be more emphasis on aging but will it be in time?
