Baby Boomers are getting better technology designed especially for us

Such new products as the Looj, a robotic gutter cleaner, Honda’s Element, and Samsung’s Jitterbug, are proving older seniors are still an excellent market.

The Element’s features a nice senior style dashboard that’s easy to see and get to. (Why can’t more car companies catch on to this?)

But it didn’t start out that way. Originally it was designed for younger people wearing ski gloves. Huh?

Anyway, it’s working and seniors are taking notice.

And here’s something else interesting that’s happening.

Companies are still trying to cater to us. We haven’t lost it yet. They’ve been trying to get us to buy things since we were in the cradle because, after all, we were the first television generation.

But I think that’s smart marketing because according to marketing experts, we’ve been green for a long time (as in cash green) and we will continue to have plenty of money to spend.

It made me feel not only relieved, but good.

The writer, June Kronholz, asks “What does old age mean, and how much should it matter?”

Good question. Apparently it matters less and less to such people as Warren Buffet, 72, and John McCain, also 72, and my 82-year-old Dad. (Yesterday I caught a glimpse of him balancing on a ladder perched against the car port.)

So, as we age, what really matters is how we age.

Chronological age is becoming less important in this era of what I like to refer to as ’super seniors’.

However, there’s a caveat.

Seniors get an awlful lot of discrimination from our socity. Just take your aging parents out to the mall and try to avoid getting run over by the stroller brigade.

But the article is well worth the read and it helps take a lot of the fear out of getting old. After all, there isn’t a whole lot we can do about it anyway, except age as gracefully as we can.

Because of her training, Dawn has been able to spot many aging problems involving her 81-year-old Dad early.

She tells about such details that we should be on the look-out for such eating properly and taking medications on time. If our parents aren’t doing those things, it’s time for us to step in and help.

There’s also a strong warning from Dawn.

Medicare does not cover assisted living or long term care. All of us over 50 need to start thinking about long term care insurance now.
