Is the Simple Life Ahead for Baby Boomers?

Peggy Noonan's editorial in WSJ spells out what we can expect in the next few years.
She is an eloquent writer who was one of President Reagan's speechwriters.
I believe she is clearer than anyone on what our daily lives will be like as we move through this recession and beyond.
Here are her major predictions:
Status, money and power won't matter as much in the future; at least for most of us.
People will be getting back to a more practical way of life.
Whew. That's a relief.
"People will be allowed to grow old again," Noonan also says.
That's another relief.
"People will slow down."
I don't know about you, but our lives were getting busier, fussier, too complexed.
I saw a commercial geared toward children, on television recently, in which children were being reminded to go outside and play.
As a nine-year old with chronically skinned up knees I didn't need that kind of reminder.
All I needed was a comic book, a popsicle, a maple tree and a summer's day and I was very happy.
Can we get back to that kind of gratifying simplicity?
Read more of Noonan's predictions. Goodbye Bland Affulence

When I see my daughter in law arranging play days…I sort of laugh to myself…I was outside playing everyday and running around until exhaustion. No electronics just creativity for games and play toys…I had very few toys and could care less. My friends and games were my life for many years. I did take piano, ballet etc…My mom took us on the bus…No car pooling in those days…But we were happy, and relaxed about life. At seven I walked to school with a group of kids…MOM never worried.
Getting back to a simpler life…can it be done?

You are so right, Carol.
When I think of the fun we used to have; the games we made up. We were very creative.
