The Federal Trade Commission is clamping down on bogus cancer cures.

So far there have been 11 law enforcement actions against companies that have made unsubstantial claims about their services, cures, treatments or products.

The FTC is also getting tough on “scientific proof” or “clinical proof” for products for cancer sufferers.

As all of this is being worked out in and out of court, the FTC has set up a special website about bogus cancer cures which will inform you on how to spot and report false cancer cures.

But they’ve got groups like Chicago, along with Paul Simon, Gene Simmons and Chaka Khan so that you don’t feel too old while you’re thinking about getting old.

This is not the way our parents and grandparents aged.

Such new products as the Looj, a robotic gutter cleaner, Honda’s Element, and Samsung’s Jitterbug, are proving older seniors are still an excellent market.

The Element features a nice senior style dashboard that’s easy to see and get to. (Why can’t more car companies catch on to this?)

But it didn’t start out that way. Originally it was designed for younger people wearing ski gloves. Huh?

Anyway, it’s working and seniors are taking notice.

And here’s something else interesting that’s happening.

Companies are still trying to cater to us. We haven’t lost it yet. They’ve been trying to get us to buy things since we were in the cradle because, after all, we were the first television generation.

But I think that’s smart marketing because according to marketing experts, we’ve been green for a long time (as in cash green) and we will continue to have plenty of money to spend.

At 41, she will be one of the oldest athletes on Olympic records, but that has not stopped her from competing against those who are much younger and supposedly better.

So, if 50 is the new 35 as a lot of people are now claiming, maybe 41 is the new 26? Right?

Physiologist Joel Stager who directs a science of swimming program at Indiana University, says it’s all about things that can be achieved, but that others just don’t achieve. 

“Opportunity, motivation and incentive to train hard,” he says.

A lot can be accomplished if we decide not to be couch potatoes and learn to take charge of our own aging.  Then we will be in  better shape for conquering all the challenges of caring for our own aging parents.
