In Home Caregiving Catches On

As we've pointed out in past posts, the future of caregiving will be in- home care.  We believe this can and should replace nursing homes as the top option for our aging parents.

Here is another in home care success story, as told by Marge Horner of the Federal Way Mirror.

'In-home caregivers assist the elderly with activities such as cooking and baking, shopping, driving to doctor appointments, light housekeeping, mail assistance, grooming, dressing and other personal care.

Perhaps one of the most important parts of a caregiver’s job is becoming a friend of the client, said Susie Aumell, a caregiver who works at Comfort Keepers in Federal Way.'

As the  in-home caregiving industry grows a lot of needs can be taken care of while costs are kept down.  It is much cheaper to keep an elderly person in her own home than to move her to a nursing home where expenses rise almost beyond the average person's ability to pay.

Many  geriatric experts also believe   once an aging person moves into assisted living, she will be  on a downward path toward the loss of  independence.  This  could  possibly  be delayed if more in-home care options are available.
