Go Ahead and Get Rid of Your Aging Parents' Bathtub
By admin on Dec 3, 2007 in Care
My Mom recently told me she misses being able to bathe in the bathtub.
It is now very difficult, if not impossible, for her to get in and out of the bathtub. The tub is simply too deep and slippery for her to maneuver safely.
So the alternative is showering.
Many aging seniors shower because it buys them more independence. Showering allows them to be able to take care of their own personal needs longer without aid. And with new products, such as the rust- proof shower chairs, showering is easier than ever.
But here are some new startling facts.
"Less than 2 percent of hotel guests ever use a bathtub in a hotel room," says Michael Matthews, an industry insider with 40 years experience.
In other words, bathtubs are on the way out of even the most luxurious hotels.
Real estate investors have also been aware of this strong trend for several years.
New homeowners would rather have a bigger shower than a bathtub.
If your aging parent is forced to shower, like my Mom, she can be reassured that a lot of other people are doing the same thing.
This helps if you are remodeling a small apartment or set of rooms for your aging parents.
Go ahead and put in a large shower.
Not only will your parents benefit, but the next homeowner will pay you handsomely when it's time to sell the house.
