Elder Abuse Increasing In Dangerous Nursing Homes

Why is elder abuse increasing in some dangerous nursing homes ?
Elder abuse is increasing in some very dangerous nursing homes.
That’s no surprise to those of us who have been researching nursing homes and aging care.
But here’s a fresh and shocking perspective from a lawyer, Ken Connor, who is willing to talk.
“…many nursing homes have been dangerous places for the residents who live there. I know, because I have seen their suffering up close and personal.”
He goes on to state elder abuse and neglect are increasing because of corporate greed.
To think of an elderly person suffering from bed sores, for example, is something that makes my skin crawl. To also think one or our aging parents could become a victim unless we keep constant vigil also staggers me.
I know of one lady who used to take her lunch hour to feed her mother in a nursing home everyday because the staff would just leave the food on the tray.
That was in a church-affiliated nursing home.

I agree. Many nursing homes place profits over people and this results in more falls, malnutrition, dehydration, increased number of decubitus ulcers, and elopements. We write about many of these issues on our blog, Legal Medicine, at:

This issue really needs to get some national attention. I’ve read about it over the years. It is unthinkable that those who are most vulnerable are abused in their final years of life.
If I had a relative in a distant location in a nursing home, I would insist on installing a “nanny cam”, and I would hire someone (on my behalf) to go in on a regular basis, at least weekly, to check-in with administrator and visit the elderly person. A simple way to provide hands-on oversight..and accountability
We have to find some way to turn this awful situation around.

Dale, I agree.
It is shameful that our elderly are sometimes abused.
A nanny cam is a good idea.

This issue is really alarming. I don’t want my mom to be in the care of others’ hands. I am thinking of giving my mon a new home though she’s not that old yet. I am checking County Homes For Sale out. Please feel free to check it too. Peace out I love my Mom!!
