Church Nurses Help Elderly with Better Care Options
By admin on Nov 16, 2007 in Care

Church nurses can find better care options for aging patients, explain medications, and teach chronic disease management.
They are filling in the gaps for senior citizens who are often confused by an increasingly fragmented health care system.
According to Alvyne Rethemyer, director of the International Parish Nurse Resource Center, helping the sick and giving geriatric nursing care is not only for physical needs but spiritual needs also.
"Every nurse worth her salt says she takes care of the body, mind, and spirit," says Rethemeyer.
The church nursing movement is growing.
Now church nurses are also taking care of young families who may need help with new babies and problems with the welfare system.
But for aging seniors, church nurses giving elderly care services have become their advocates helping them coordinate care from different doctors as well as nursing home options.
