Bonnie Kantor Works to Change Long-Term Care

Caring for the aged is taking  on new ground, and it’s about time.  Thanks to courageous people such as Bonnie Kantor we may be able to avoid a situation I know occurred with a 100- year-old lady during the last few months.

She had broken her hip on the night of her 100th birthday, and lingered in a nursing home until her death a few days ago.  This was a lady who still got her hair fixed at the beauty parlor once a week and enjoyed being around her family and church congregation immensely.  But accepting  her nursing home care was difficult, especially since she was forced to deal with a lot of people she wasn’t familiar with.  This led to conflicts and unhappiness which innovators such as Bonnie are feverishly working to change.

Bonnie believes our eldercare can center around the person and the community instead of the warehousing concept of today’s nursing homes.  She has given an inspirational interview which shows her deep seated beliefs that our aging parents should be respected, loved and cared for with empathy as well as compassion.
