Aging in Place Remodeling Catches On
By admin on Feb 2, 2009 in Care
Aging in place remodeling is catching on.
Thanks to new and simple renovations such as replacing door handles with easy-to-use levers, elderly people will be able to stay in their homes longer.
Other improvements are putting in 17-inch-high toilets that used to be called senior toilets.
Making aging in place adjustments can cut down on nursing home costs, because if an elderly person can stay in their home for at least five more years, that will save thousands of dollars.
Also, for an elderly person to be able to maintain independence a little longer will keep them happier and help them to avoid being warehoused in nursing homes.

With the rising costs of professional institutional care, home modifications are going to be a possible “hot” market with the aging of our population. Other, more detailed, modifications include walk in bathtubs, suction cup grab bars for multiple placement sites and ceiling slings/track systems. All are beneficial in helping maintain dignity and independence. Thanks for the post.

Yes, Chris.
You are right. This market will be huge for seniors.
I’m already interested for myself because some of my close friends have recently remodeled with these features in mind.
Not only do they have a beautiful home, but it’s senior-ready. They will be able to live there for a long time as they age.
I think that’s a real plus.
