Age in Place Specialists Get Valuable Training for Senior Housing

The National Association of Homebuilders is doing a good service for aging seniors by providing aging in place certification for remodelers and homebuilders  who want to specialize in this unique type of housing.

In order to become a Certified Aging in Place Specialist the remodeler or homebuilder must attend a three day course that is designed to help him or her emphasize with an aging senior.

I was impressed with the fact that homebuilders are wearing sunglasses smeared with Vaseline so that they can know what it is like not to be able to see well.  The program is so good that some therapists, architects, and designers are also  participating.

What this means is older people are being viewed as important members of society with a lot to contribute during their later years.  Keeping them in their homes as long as possible not only cuts costs, but gives communities a valuable resource with our elderly living amongst us rather then in isolated nursing homes.

I think the  Certified Aging in Place Specialists will be a godsend to many families coping with the challenges of looking after the elderly.
