We Need Eldercare Help Now
By admin on Dec 2, 2008 in Care

We've often talked about why we need to give elder care to our aging parents as they grow more elderly.
What about the how?
How exactly do we do provide family eldercare when we're still working, strapped for cash, dealing with massive healthcare costs, and a recession?
I've said this before. The government is not helping us very much. It is mostly hindering us.
We need practical common sense solutions we can work with. We don't need more bureaucratic nightmares.
The example of 84- year old Betty Gresick proves my point.
Betty is still healthy and wants to earn a little extra income. She plays the piano for a local church during their services. The meager pay she receives is now being deducted from her Social Security.
Don't get me started. I promised myself I would not rant.
But there's more…
The numbers of aging parents moving in with their adult children needing eldercare resources are growing; 67 percent since 2000.
That means we need help and eldercare services now.
Help we can actually use.
Fortunately some private companies are listening.
I'm not here to do commercials for them. You have to do your research and due diligence to make sure you get the best plan, but they're listening.
Among them are Harris Private Bank and Oppenheimer Funds, Inc.
Also some companies are now offering eldercare benefits for their employees. This is a bold move and will pay off in spades for those companies, I believe.
If they can help us with our needs we can be better, more productive employees. You can't put a price tag on that.
All of this is only a start. We need more help and some of us are going to need it very soon.
