Elderly Woman Dies Alone Without Caregivers

Checking on the Elderly

An elderly woman has died alone because no one checked on her.  This is what  happens when there are no caregivers.

However, this story is unique and most disturbing because of the circumstances.

Not only did no one check on her in the very small South Carolina community, but they sold her house for back taxes with her body was still in it.  She had died eighteen months before…

It makes you wonder how our systems of church, family and government can fail so blatantly.

If a homeowner does not pay the tax and there is a parked car out front you kind of think  someone would have at least tried to go in to investigate what the situation was before putting the house up on the tax sale.

But this story hits home with a lot of us because not only are we faced with taking care of our own parents, but we often wonder about those poor neglected elderly people who don't have anybody.

What are our responsibilities toward them?
