Doubt Cast on New Alzheimer's Drugs

Do the new Alzheimer's drugs really work?

Apparently not, according to some recent Italian studies.

Three drugs, Aricept, Exelon, and Reminyl are being prescribed to patients who are in the  mild to moderate stages of Alzheimer's.

But these drugs  are also being prescribed for people who have pre-dementia.  Such prescriptions are referred to as "off-label".

Off-label means the drugs are being prescribed for uses other than what they have been officially approved for.

What the Italian researchers found in six clinical trials was that these drugs did little to nothing for relieving the progression of the pre-dementia stages.

In other words, there is still a lot of debate about what is really going on. Or not going on.

But here's another important point. Every drug your aging parents take can have side effects.  Some of those effects could possibly be dangerous.

All drugs should be taken with caution and full knowledge of what they do and what the consequences of taking them can be.

Still, some of these drugs are strongly advertised  on television.

Of course, that brings up another one of my pet peeves about the Madison Avenue approach to the selling of prescription drugs.

I won't get into that debate here today. Maybe later.

Always ask yourself if the expense of taking such "off-label" drugs is really worth the price?

Seems that Alzheimer's and pre Alzheimer's sufferers would get a lot more results using grape seed extract instead of those chemicals pushed by Big Pharma. Do your own research on the web using "grape seed extract" and join to this expression, the words breast, prostate, cancer, diabets, heart disease, etc.

Of all time, prevention is known to be the least expensive of treatments; being a child, didn't your mom gave you cod liver oil, to boost your immune system Before the flu strikes. Prevention is possible for almost every illness not to occure.

Can't understand people. They are scared from GMO's and all their life, they don't hesitate to swalow pills that do more harm than good to the most valuable they own; their health.

My dad had the bad idea to listen to a physician that pushed him to statins use. He's been to confident to his doctor and died shortly after. Could not stand up couldn't
    walk. Lost his kidneys

My grandouther is ADHD, i spoke to her dr about
naturals that, i tought he could help me with; he didn't even know grapefruit seed extract. All he gave for answer is: There is so many drugs comming out, do you realy think i can look for alternative terapy when i hardly can
assimilate information on new drug products.

If you realy think you're in good gand with your health practician, the least i can do to help is to tell you to search for a second advise and not among drug pushers this time.
