Are You Too Old for Love?

You\'re never too old to love someone else

70-year old Barbara Khon just got engaged to 70ish J.B. Trent in the bread section of the Bellevue, Tennessee Publix.  The wedding will take place on September 20th.

Both were widowed  and originally from Michigan where they worked for GM, although they didn’t know each  other there.  Then both later moved to Tampa where she taught school and he was a fire department captain.  Their paths had still not crossed.

They didn’t meet until J.B. walked into the Publix store with a craving for their Cuban bread.  Barbara was serving it.  One thing led to another and now the rest will be history for the new couple who will be living in Florida- again.

J.B.’s advice for older dating- “When you are almost 70 years old, you’ve got to move quickly,” he says.

Okay.

Barbara’s advice actually comes from her adult daughter.

“Let him be your friend,” she coached.

Their first date was a Christmas light tour at the Gaylord Orpyland Resort.   There must have been something magical about it because they were practically engaged by January.

So is there a lesson for the rest of us?

Yes.  Grocery stores are a good place to meet people.  Singles have known that for years.  And maybe there’s something special in Publix’s Cuban bread, hmmm?

Also, you’re never too old to be friends.  And who knows? Friendship can lead to romance if the circumstances are right.
