New Food Pyramid Puts Less Emphasis on Supplements
By admin on Jan 4, 2008 in Health

The new food pyramid is out and there is a special edition for older seniors over age 70.
It was recently updated by nutritional experts at Tufts University.
What is worth noting with this pyramid version is aging seniors are being advised to get less of their nutrients from supplements and vitamins and more from their food. That’s because many in the medical field are now convinced food, especially from a very good diet, is the absolute best way to get what your body needs. Supplements have their place, but should be used sparingly.
Another interesting note about this pyramid version is it is very user friendly. You can click on keywords and brightly colored illustrations for quick and concise information about the foods you should be eating for maximum health.
The downside is you might get very discouraged if you fill out your own pyramid on the government’s USDA site.
Even if you are a petite size 8, it may inform you that you’re overweight. That’s not good news as we recover from all that delicious food we had during the holidays.
